How to Stand firm in your Faith
You find yourself walking along in your Christian life and suddenly you are hit by circumstances or brokenness comes up, and you find yourself overwhelmed by the brokenness, questioning God, and feeling alone. How do you stand firm in your faith when emotions are so overwhelming that you ask God where He is.
I have been there, my friend.
I have struggled. Not with believing that God is, but with wondering where He was. Why wasn’t He working on my behalf?
Today I am going to show you how to build yourself up and stand firm in your faith when you are struggling with your self-worth, when you are struggling with wondering where God is, and when you’re struggling just to get through one more day.
Decide to Continue
The first thing to do is to decide that you are going to continue.
Colossians 1:23 says,
If you continue in your faith, established and firm, and do not move from the hope held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven, and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.
Make a quality decision that you will not give up.
- That is what the enemy wants you to do.
- He wants you to give up.
- He wants you to leave your faith.
- He wants to steal your self-worth and steal any hope that you have.
So, make a quality decision that you will not give up, that you will not be moved by circumstances or heartbreak, and that you will continue to walk with God and in His ways no matter what happens.
Keep Yourself in God’s Word to Stand Firm in Your Faith
The second thing is to keep yourself in the Word of God.
Romans 10:17 says,
So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (NKJV).
- Stand firm in your faith by continuing to put the Word of God into your eyes and ears;
- through reading it daily
- through speaking it
- through reading it aloud
- through memorizing it
- and while you read, write down scriptures that speak to your heart.
Reading the Word Aloud
I had a teacher in Bible college who taught about reading the Word, and he said, “Read the Word aloud to yourself so that it’s not only going in your eyes, but it’s also going in your ears.:
When you do this, it builds up your faith.
Keep A List
The third thing I want to share with you about how you can stand firm in your faith, is to keep a folder or a list.
If you are going through a certain situation or struggling with something that is trying your faith, when you come across scriptures that speak to your heart about that situation or are promises to you about that situation, write them down.
- Keep them on a list or in a folder and go through them regularly.
- Declare them daily and sometimes even twice daily.
- Pray those scriptures back to God.
- Maybe even memorize some of them.
The Heaviness Lifted Off Me
There was a time where I was really struggling, and I kept a pile of, cards on my desk that spoke to my heart. At that time I was collecting scriptures about being God’s treasure, because I was struggling with my self-worth.
I felt like I would never be normal, like I would never be whole, like I was less than other people. I felt like an orphan.
And I remember that day, going into my office and seeing that pile of scriptures and feeling drawn to them, and I turned them over and read each one of them aloud, and kept reading and kept reading.
In that moment, I felt something lift off of me. I felt so encouraged in my faith. I just felt that there was hope for me, that I was valuable to God.
You Can Stand Firm in Your Faith During Storms
So dear sister, you can stand firm in your faith by deciding to continue, by deciding to keep your eyes and your ears on the Word of God, and by keeping a list, or a folder of Scriptures; a go-to when certain situations that you struggle with come up.
Hebrews 11:1 tells us what faith is.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (NKJV).
Let me say that again.
You can stand firm in your faith, which is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen, by deciding to continue, keeping your eyes and ears on the Word of God, and by keeping a list or folder of scriptures to go when certain situations come up that will speak to your heart and build your faith.
So today, dear Sister, ask God to lead you to the Scriptures that will minister to your heart for the situation that you find yourself in.
Can I pray for you today?
Father God, I pray for my sister in Christ. I pray that You would lead her and guide her to the Scriptures that would build her up in her most holy faith. In Jesus’ mighty name. Amen.
