stepI didn’t feel much in the natural, but a lot was going on in the spirit.

The beginning of my journey to healing started  sitting next to a pastor. I had suffered through tremendous abuse and was still suffering from it. I had no idea that years later, I would be standing next to this pastor as an equal, ministering to others. I only knew I was broken and she was willing to listen.

But it wasn’t only listening that she did.

She led me in prayers of healing, prayers that would set me free from the past and the effects of it that held me captive. She seemed to understand like no one else did, and she believed me when I talked about feeling things around me that were not of God.

That night, as I lay in bed, I noticed where I had previously sensed oppression and evil, the only thing I sensed was quiet, silence, peace. It was the first time in many years that I had felt that.

But that was not the end.

It was only the beginning.

There was much more to be done. The Lord kept leading me to people and places that would help me deal with my past. And then, at His leading, I ended up in the Cleansing Stream Discipleship class, praying for others, and allowing them to pray for me.

Freedom came.

Healing came.

And it all started on a couch, sitting next to a pastor, telling her bits and pieces of my story.

The first step to healing from the wounds of our pasts is to invite the Lord in to heal. Open the door of your heart to Him. He is not afraid of your brokenness. He is not angry at you for that fear. He is compassionate and wants to heal you.  (see Psalm 34:18)

When it feels that no one on this earth understands the emotional pain you suffer day in and day out, know that Jesus understands it completely. He gets you. And He is not about to reject you.  (see John 6:37)

You can be totally honest and upfront with Him about your anger, pain, fear…and He will still love you. He will not leave you. He will not forsake you. (see Deut. 31:6)

Would you take that first step and invite the Lord Jesus in to heal your heart? I promise that if you do, and if you stay surrendered to Him, He will take you on quite a journey, and it will be better than you could imagine.

Prayer

Heavenly Father, I invite you in to my heart. I open the door and surrender to you all the brokenness within me. I ask that you come in to heal. Help me to stay surrendered every step of the way. Walk with me through the good days and bad days, and encourage me not to give up. Let me find peace in your presence, and lead me to the life you have planned for me. In Jesus name, Amen.
