When I was a young lady, I was literally abandoned by someone that was supposed to take care of me. Instead of choosing me, they chose someone who abused me, who smiled and laughed when they hurt me.

I won’t go into detail, but I was left to live with other people. I was left alone on holiday, and when the person that they chose hurt me, this person who was supposed to take care of me, defended them.

I felt abandoned, rejected, and like there must be something wrong with me for this to happen. But over the years, the Lord has shown me that He is my Heavenly Father.

A Verse God Brought to My Heart

When I felt alone and abandoned, a verse would come to my heart.

Never will I leave you, never will I forsake you.

Hebrews 13:5 NKJV

Dear sister today, I want to talk about how to deal with those feelings of abandonment, isolation, and feeling like you’ve been forsaken.

I don’t know what your experience has been with abandonment. Maybe it was a parent, a spouse, a friend, or other family member, someone who left you, betrayed you and proved that you couldn’t trust them.

The first thing I learned when I felt alone was to ask the Lord to show me that He was there for me. Dear sister. When you feel alone, ask the Lord to show you that He’s there for you.

Some Verses For when you feel abandoned

Genesis 28:15 NKJV

Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go,  and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have spoken to you.

Deuteronomy 31:6 NKJV

Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the LORD your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.

 Deuteronomy 31:8 NKJV

And the LORD, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.

Isaiah 41:10 NKJV

Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

To my sister in Christ who feels abandoned, who feels alone, who feels forsaken.

Meditate on one of these truths.

Write it down.

Look at it often and remind yourself that you are not alone.

God has not abandoned you, even if other people have.

Thank the Lord that He’s always with you and that you are never alone.

Remind yourself that He has promised to never leave you nor forsake you.

Think on Him

I used to go outside, hold my cup of tea, and think on the Lord.

I would think on a verse and pray that verse back to God, and thank Him that I was not alone, and thank Him that He was with me.

And as I did that, it did something within me.

Dear sister, ask the Lord for reminders that He’s there with you.

For me, Bible verses would come just at the right time, the times I felt the most alone.

And other little signs came during everyday life that were personal for me. It reminded me that I was not alone, but my Heavenly Father was with me.

Even if you feel alone in this world, your Heavenly Father is with you.

Hebrews 13:5 says I will never leave you nor forsake you. (NKJV)

That verse has come up within me so many times when I felt alone.

Ask the Lord, ask the Holy Spirit to speak to you, to show you that you are not alone.

Dear your sister. When you feel abandoned and alone in this world, when you feel betrayed or forsaken, remember that there is One with you who will never leave you and will never abandon you.

Can I pray for you today?

Father God, I pray for my dear sister in Christ. Help her Father, to know that You will never abandon her, that she has never walked alone.

Show her where You were when things happened to her that caused her to question whether you were with her or not. Help her to know the truth that You were always with her, and to overcome the pain and sadness of betrayal and abandonment.

Help her to forgive and to not let any bitterness take root in her Lord. I pray in Jesus name that throughout her day she would just feel your presence and that you would make yourself known to her.

I pray Father, that you would give her little reminders throughout her day, that You are there, that You are with her. And that even if no one else is with her, if she is standing completely alone, show her Father that you stand with her, and you are the king of Kings and Lord of all Lords. You are the mightiest One of them all standing with her.

Heal my sister’s heart from any wounds of abandonment or betrayal in Jesus’ mighty name, I pray. Amen.
