I once attended a Bible Study where the woman teaching took out a twenty-dollar bill. She talked to us about how valuable it was. Then she mashed it up in her hands, crumpled it all together, tossed it on the ground and stomped on it. Then she picked it up and showed it to all of us. “Is this still worth twenty dollars?” She asked.

We all nodded.

“No matter what you’ve been through you are still of value to God.” She said.

I remember the tears that came to my eyes, and how I held back the sobs that wanted to escape my lips because this demonstration had been so powerful to me.

No matter how anyone else treats you, you are valuable to God. It is when you see yourself the way He sees you, that other people will start to see you differently.

You are the apple of God’s eye (Zechariah 2:8), His masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10), His special possession. You are valuable. You are loved.

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9).
