I was rushing through.
I had so many things to do that day. I didn’t want to put off reading my Bible so I hurried. I used to look forward to time in the word and prayer. That day it was just something else on my to-do list.
I thought of how excited I used to be to spend time with God, and it saddened me that I was rushing through. It was as if Jesus was sitting there at my kitchen table waiting to talk to me, and I was too busy doing my Christian duties to even listen.
It’s not about a checklist. It’s about the time we spend receiving from the Lord. Some of us are so busy, doing doing doing. I believe God just wants us to slow down and listen to what He wants to say. Let’s let Him order our days, instead of our to-do lists.
Sit down with Him in the morning or whenever you have your quiet time. Start reading your Bible slowly, taking time to listen. When something jumps out at you, say that part of scripture over and over, muttering it to yourself a few times; and then, just close your eyes and listen. What is the Spirit of God saying to you about this verse? How can you implement this into your life?
Let’s not hurry through anymore. Let’s slow down and enjoy precious time with the Lord, taking the time to quiet ourselves and really listen.
You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart (Jeremiah 29:13 NIV).
Amen! God bless you! 🙂
Good reminder!
Caroline, I’m with you! I think we all have a little Martha in us at times in our lives. Like you said, time with the Lord should be those moments of peace, slowing down, and times to look forward to, but I, too, have on many occasion rushed my way through those moments. But lately I’m being more conscious of really just sitting still, reading and meditating on the word, and simply being. You don’t know how much this post speaks to me. Thank you.
On a passing thought, I’ve been taking my once or twice a week coffee, our quiet moment together (me and God), and savoring every mouthful. Really taking in the flavor and the quietness of the morning. Sort of sitting with the Lord and sharing that cup of coffee or tea while his presence permeates the moment.
Blessings my dear,
Marianne xo
Thank you Marianne, for your kind words and for sharing about how you have coffee with the Lord. I had some tea with him this morning. Thanks for the wonderful idea:)
Thanks for visiting my blog! A lovely post. In the past couple of weeks, on the days that I start work a bit later, I have made a point of spending some extra time before work reading and meditating on the word. It really centers me and I enjoy having that non-rushed time
Don’t you love that time with God? I don’t know what I’d do without it. God Bless you!
