my Abusers Defined me

“You feel ugly inside!” the man prayed, his hand resting upon my head “but God is going to dress you up and put earrings in your ears and a crown upon your head.”

I had gone to a meeting with a friend, and at her insistence, had come up for prayer. This man had no idea who I was or what I’d been through, yet he continued to pray God’s life and healing over me.

The truth was, I struggled so much with feeling ugly inside. My abusers had spoken terrible words over me so consistently that I actually thought they were true. I thought I was ugly. I thought I was worthless, and I thought I didn’t deserve anything good. My abusers’ words had come to define me.

I saw myself as broken.

And therefore, others saw the projection of what I believed about myself.

and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.” ~ Numbers 13:33 NKJV

But God wanted to change all that. He did not want me defined by the words of broken people any longer. He wanted to be the one who defined me. He wanted to dress me up in the beauty of His truth, and He wanted me to see myself according to His word.

16 truths God says about you.

God also wants to dress you up in the beauty of his truth. He does not want you defined by others who have abused you or torn you down. It’s time to let the Lord almighty, creator of heaven and earth, be the one who defines you.

Take the truths that stood out to you, write them down and speak them aloud daily.
