When we take a step into the ocean, first we only get our feet wet. And if we stand there for a little while, the waves will wash over our feet. We can decide to go in a little deeper, or pull away.
That ocean is like the joy and peace that will cover us as we choose to trust in the Lord. First we trust a little bit, and joy and peace come in that situation. We choose to go a little deeper, and the joy and peace cover us a little more. As the process continues, and we become fully committed to trusting in the Lord, our whole selves will be wet with that ocean of joy and peace.
We can choose to step into that ocean of joy and peace simply by trusting in the Lord. Know that it is a process we grow in. Every time we choose to trust the Lord, every time we choose to say His name or remind ourselves of His promises, we are going a little deeper into that ocean of joy and peace.
May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit (Romans 15:13 NIV).
