Today I’ll share with you a prayer for a broken heart, then give some direction on how to keep moving forward from there.
“I have heard your cries. I have seen your tears, and I have a plan to deliver you!” Our Bible teacher spoke of God hearing the Israelites.
My Story
As soon as he said those words a cry arose in my heart. I had been so broken, so miserable at the things life had thrown at me and wanted so badly to be healed!
But I felt like I was stuck in my brokenness. I felt unheard. I felt alone in my cries, and I really felt forgotten, abandoned, and left to wallow in the despair that surrounded me.
And then, those words.
It’s as if they went straight into my soul and broke every lie I’d believed about the brokenness I fought every day.
The Lord took me on a journey of healing from my brokenness. I no longer struggle with those feelings of emptiness and despair. It didn’t happen overnight, but as I surrendered my pain to Him, He comforted me, spoke life to me and guided me into His healing for my heart and life.
I’d like to share with you a prayer for a broken heart that I myself prayed while sitting in the depths of depression, despair and brokenness. The enemy told me I’d never get better, that I’d always be broken he was wrong. His lies are just that, lies.
These lies of the enemy are meant to get you to quit, give up hope and accept your brokenness as a way of life. But God has something better for you: Healing, Hope, Joy and knowing you are genuinely loved and treasured by your Heavenly Father.
Prayer for Broken Heart
Father God, I surrender my broken heart to you. I thank you Father, that your will for me is healing, hope and joy.
Your Word says that you will turn my mourning into dancing, that you will take off the sackcloth and ashes and clothe me with joy and gladness (See Psalm 30:11).
Father, fill me with your joy.
I lift up to you the depression, negative thoughts, sadness, grief, emptiness and hopelessness I feel. I invite You Father, into these places, and ask You to come in and heal. I receive You as my healer. I pray Father, that as I follow You, that You turn my tears of sorrow to joy, that you turn the pain in my heart to laughter and that You bring healing to every part of my broken heart.
Father God, I choose to trust you. Where I’ve been betrayed by those I should have been able to trust, I pray for your healing. Help me Father, to truly know you as Father, and know that I can trust you fully.
Where there have been questions in my heart, asking where You were when certain things happened, I pray Father, that You would show me You were right there with me, that You never left me and never abandoned me.
Father, I break the power of the lies of the enemy in my life and renounce every agreement I’ve made with them in any way, in Jesus’ mighty name. I declare that those lies have no more power of my mind and heart.
Father, let Your truth be first and foremost in my mind. Let the truth of your Word come out of my mouth when I need it most and let the enemy’s plans be overturned in my life.
I thank you Father that You will fill every valley, make every mountain and hill low. You make the crooked ways straight and the rough ways smooth (See Isaiah 40:4). Father, I give You permission to work in my life, to set things right and to do a work in my heart that only You can do. Thank You for picking up every broken piece and making me whole again.
Thank You Father, that there is hope for me. I am your child, and you will not leave me here. You will never forsake me (See Deuteronomy 31:8), You will not fail me, and I can wholly trust in You.
And Father, thank you for Your truth going deep into my heart. Thank you that you’ve heard my cries, you’ve seen my tears, and you have a plan to deliver me from this brokenness and every effect of it on my life.
In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
Go Further
Every day, you have a choice.
You can choose to let the brokenness speak to your mind and heart, to let it have a place in your life, or you can daily invite God in to heal you, to lead you, to guide you and bring you to a place of joy.
How do you continue believing God for healing?
Spend time in worship and prayer every day. Invite God’s presence into your life. This so helps your mind to be stayed on God (See Isaiah 26:3).
Spend time in the Word daily. Don’t just skim over it, but read it slowly, taking it in for yourself. Meditate on God’s promises for you and pray the word back to God. Let His truth permeate your heart and mind by being in it every day.
Your healing may not happen overnight, but just as a small drop of water eventually fills a whole bucket, so will the Word of God fill you as you take it in every day.
You can make it through this. Do not give up hope. Your God has you in His hand and no one can snatch you out of His hands (See John 10:29).
May God heal you, fill you with joy and give you peace in your mind and heart.
In His love,
Carolyn
