Have you been wanting divine direction, but you don’t know how to get it? You are in the right place because I’m going to show you powerful steps to take when you are asking the Lord to give you divine direction.
Find divine Direction Through God’s Word
The first way to get divine direction is through God’s Word.
When you read the Word of God and a verse sticks out to you, that can be the Holy Spirit speaking to you through that verse.
- So, think about that verse, how does it apply to you, to your life?
- How does it apply to decisions that you need to make? Does it show what the right decision for you might be?
- How can you walk it out in your everyday life?
- What does this verse speak to your heart?
- Ask the Holy Spirit to make that verse real to you and give you spiritual direction, or divine ideas.
- You can also pray this verse back to God and ask Him to help you in the area that this verse is speaking to you about.
- to pray the verse back to God, pull out the main points of the Scripture and turn them into your prayer points.
Prayer For God’s Direction
The second way to get divine direction and let God direct your path is through prayer. Pray and ask God for direction. Proverbs 20:24 in the NIV says, “A person’s steps are directed by the Lord.”
So, a prayer that you can pray is:
Lord, I thank You that You direct my steps today. I ask for Your wisdom and direction, and that You would give me the answers that I seek on which way to go.
How Does God Give Divine Direction?
God’s leading might come to your mind as a thought, and sometimes it will come as a knowing deep inside yourself.
It can also come through having peace about something.
God Confirms His Word
Know that when God is giving you direction, He will confirm His direction to you.
For example, years ago, I was praying and I felt like God wanted me to go to Bible college.
Well, I was already doing something else. I had my plans, but it kept coming up and it wouldn’t go away. God’s plan was different than mine.
So, then God put someone in my path to talk to me about Bible college. It was a friend of my daughters. She just came to my house and started talking to me about how great Bible college would be.
Then I said, “God, if you want me to go to Bible college, show me where to go.”
And in the next few days, I ended up seeing a Bible college right by my house that I had no idea was there. And it turns out that that is where my husband’s family went, and I had no idea.
God’s grace and guidance led me to going to Bible College, which changed the whole direction for my life.
The Voice of God Will Always Line Up with His Word
God’s voice will always line up with his Word. When you feel you’ve gotten direction from God, ask yourself if the direction you are hearing lines up with the word of God.
The Fear of Not Making the Right Decision
And if you get caught up in the wanting direction before you move on anything, that can be a way for you to not move at all, especially if you feel you heard Him, but you’re just not quite sure.
Sometimes as we take a small step of faith in the direction we feel we’re supposed to go, or in our daily decisions, God will meet us there; or He’ll put us in a different direction. God usually doesn’t show us the whole map. He just shows us the next step to take.
It won’t always make sense, but it will line up with His word and He will confirm His word. You’ll have a knowing in your spirit, that this is the way to go.
One thing that I want to talk to you about isthe fear of making a mistake, or not making the right choice.
One time while I was going to Bible college, I was driving down the street and I was so tired I missed my exit, and I thought, oh gosh, now I’m gonna be late for Bible college.
I went around the long way and finally got in onto the road that would take me to my class, and I pulled up behind this car and stopped, and all of a sudden I had this thought and it came from deep inside myself, it said, If you make a mistake, I’ll make sure you get back on the right path.
Sometimes we’re so afraid of making a mistake that we don’t move, especially when we have a big decision in front of us.
But remember who we are, children of God, and our Father God is there to lead us and guide us. If we make a mistake, He’ll help us overcome those mistakes and get back on the right path with Him.
So, if we take that small step, and trust God to meet us there He will show us the way to go.
It Will Have Already Been on Your Heart
And one thing I want say about God confirming His word to you; In Bible College, there were no parking lot words. That meant that any words you had for someone had to be said in front of other people, because that is safe.
So, If someone comes to you and says, “God said that we’re supposed to be married”, but God hasn’t told you that you’re supposed to marry that person, I might question that word.
Anything that God is confirming to you, He will already put on your heart, He will have already spoken to you.
You are A Child of God
One more thing to remember is that you are a child of God, and God does not abandon His children. He is not far off, not listening, but He is very near you, listening to your prayers and your cries. He wants to give you help and He wants to lead you and guide you (See Psalm 46:1, Psalm 34:18, and Hebrews 13:5).
When you ask for wisdom and want to live according to Biblical Principles, seeking His Will, His Direction and His wonderful plan, God honors that.
James 1:5 in the NIV says,
If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.
That is God’s promise to you. When you seek divine direction, and want to live life according to God’s leading, He promises to meet you there.
What if I’ve made Bad Choices?
If you’ve made bad choices, give those mistakes into God’s hands.
You could pray something like,
Father God, I give the bad decisions I’ve made into your hands. I repent from those decision and I ask for your help in overcoming the past. I thank you that you are a God of restoration, and as I learn and mature in the faith, I pray that you would lead me to make right decisions and live a life that honors you. I invite you Father God, to do a work in my mind and heart, in Jesus’ mighty name, amen.

Benefits of Divine Direction
When you are walking with the Lord, putting yourself in a position of receiving Divine direction, you are walking into God’s wonderful plans for you.
I have heard so many stories of people just going about their daily lives, sensing the Lord’s direction, and praying for someone, giving them a word of encouragement, or even saving someone’s life.
We are all part of the body of Christ, and each one of us has a divine purpose on this earth.
Ephesians 4:16 in the NIV says, from him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.
As each part does its work.
Have you ever thought, dear sister in Christ, that you living out your day-to-day life just being in a position of listening to the Lord could make a huge difference in someone’s life?
That just by being who you are, that you are an important part of the Kingdom of God?
This is what happened for me, when I was just six years old, and had heard the name of God but didn’t know who He was. I asked my friend’s mom who God was one day, and she spent the rest of the years that she was my neighbor, teaching and training me in the ways of God. I didn’t come from a Christian home. In fact I came from some dark places; but this woman, just living out her daily life, was asked by a six-year-old who God was, and she was ready with the answer.
You are so important in the Kingdom of God, and God can use you right where you are today. You don’t have to be a theologian, or have a degree in Biblical studies, you can just be reading the Word and praying for God to direct your steps. He will put you in place to be used in the Kingdom of God giving you divine direction, wisdom and much more.
Matthew 6:33 in the NIV says,
But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
So those are just a few ways that you can put yourself in a position of seeking God for divine direction.
May God Bless you with divine direction and wisdom, my friend.
Action Steps

Thank you for this sweet teaching! I laughed at the part where you missed your exit to Bible college because I myself have a tough time following directions to new places. Thank the Lord He doesn’t leave it up to us to figure it out!
Thank you Kerry!
