fearFear: Often called False Evidence Appearing Real.

Fear has a way of sneaking into your heart when you have been abused. Many of us have grown up with it as part of life. The people who were supposed to take care of us and give us security often failed, and we ended up hurt, wounded, not trusting, sometimes wondering if we were even loved.

Fear may seem overwhelming at times, stealing your peace, your hope and your sleep. You may wonder if you’ll ever be free of this ugly monster.

Fear used to plague me. I was afraid to walk out my front door, drive, even go to the grocery store. But little by little, the Lord delivered me from that.

Fear still tries to come on me, a lot. But I know how far the Lord has brought me. I’m better than I was, and the Lord will continue the work He started in me.

There are a few things you can do when fear attacks to combat it. Don’t get me wrong, this is a journey, and you may have to celebrate that you are less afraid, rather than not afraid at all.

When fear attacks:

  1. Write down some scriptures about fear.

A few examples you could use are:

Psalm 23:4 Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me (NKJV).

Psalm 27:1-3 The Lord is my light and my salvation; Whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; Of whom shall I be afraid (NKJV)?

Psalm 34:4 I sought the Lord, and He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears (NKJV).

  1. Pray these scriptures back to God:

An example of praying the above scriptures back to God could be:

Father God, I thank you that I don’t have to fear any evil, for whatever I walk through, you will be with me. You are present with me in every trouble. Thank you that you are my salvation, the strength of my life, and I don’t have to be afraid that anything is more powerful than you. Show me how big you are, and make yourself real to me Lord. As I seek you, I lift every fear to you. I put each one into your hands, and I ask that you deliver me. In Jesus name, amen.

  1. Review Daily

Review the scriptures you’ve selected about fear daily, and keep praying them back to God, standing on the truth of God’s word and His promises about fear.

One day, you will realize that what you were once afraid of is not such a big deal anymore, or that the fear has lessened. God will deliver you even from the greatest of fears. He loves you and wants to see you, His loved one, whole, healed and restored.

In His Love,

Carolyn
