I had walked that way many times before, but nothing like this had ever happened.
A few weeks before, I had seen a sign for a church, and something drew me to it. I took down the number and called.
A man called back and told me all about their church and what time it started. He said He would like to come to my home with another person and meet me and my family. I can’t remember if I agreed and canceled, or if I said I’d think about it and never called them back. But for some reason, them wanting to come to my home scared me.
So that day, as I was walking by the sign, a man was outside working in the garden. When he saw me, he stood up, and said, “Are you Carolyn?”
Oh How I wish I had said yes! I will always wonder what that man had to say to me. But instead, in fear, I shook my head and walked faster. The man shrugged his shoulders and went back to his work. I tried not to think about that for a long time, but when I did start walking with God, I began to understand that even then, the Lord was calling to me. Even then, the Lord cared about me and wanted me to come to Him.
There are several verses in the Bible that talk about God knowing us intimately.
You have searched me, Lord,
and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
you are familiar with all my ways. (psalm 139:1-3 NIV)
For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb (psalm 139:13 NIV).
Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5 NIV).
I will give you hidden treasures,
riches stored in secret places,
so that you may know that I am the Lord,
the God of Israel, who summons you by name (Isaiah 45:3 NIV)
The Lord has been calling out to you. He has known you before you were even born. The Bible says that His will is that not one should perish (Matthew 18:14). Isn’t that a wonderful truth? The God of the universe, the God of the whole earth, knew about you before you were even born. You are no accident. He’s been calling out to you in different ways to come to him, drawing you to Himself(John 6:44). Will you answer Him today?
Jesus, I believe you died on the cross and rose again for the forgiveness of my sins. I choose to receive you as my king and my savior. Come into my heart, help me to grow and know you intimately. I declare that right now, I am accepted as your child through Christ’s blood. Amen.
