The word of God is like a map.
It was given to us so we would know the way to go.
The Holy Spirit is like a GPS system.
When I drive, I have the sound turned on so I hear the GPS speak to me. It can help guide me at the point where I am to get where I need to go. So it is with the Holy Spirit. As we learn to tune in and listen to Him, He becomes clearer and clearer as we practice listening.
Looking at the map, (the Word) will train you in all kinds of situations, even situations you may not be in at the moment. It shows you the way to go, so you won’t slip. It also helps with discerning the Holy Spirit, because the Holy Spirit will never lead you contrary to the Word.
Sometimes we may reach a point where we need to make a split second decision, and if we haven’t looked at the map, How will we know which way to turn?
The Lord has given us His Word, and His Holy Spirit, to guide us through every day life.
Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful (Joshua 1:8 NIV).
