When you’re going through hard and uncertain times, it’s easy to let the thought come in that says, maybe God forgot about me. Maybe I’ve done something to make him turn away. You may feel alone, like nobody sees what you’re going through. I want to encourage you that even in uncertain times, even in hard times, even in times of brokenness that God has not forgotten you.

Scriptures

There are a number of scriptures I want to share with you, and when I’m done sharing with those, I’ll give you some things you can do when you feel forgotten and alone.

John 10:28-30 NKJV
And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand. My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand. I and My Father are one.”

1 Corinthians 8:3 NKJV

But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him.
Isaiah 49:14-16a NLT
Yet Jerusalem says, “The Lord has deserted us; the Lord has forgotten us.” “Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.
Psalm 139:16-18 NLT
You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me!

What If I Did Something Wrong?

When you feel forgotten or alone, when you feel invisible, when you feel like maybe you’ve just done something wrong; first of all, I want to remind you of

1 John 1:9 NKJV
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

When the lie comes up that maybe you’ve done something wrong, that maybe God’s turned away from you, know that Jesus Christ’s gift to us is that we can come before the Father through Jesus Christ, not by our own works (See Ephesians 2:8-9).

And if we have sinned, that we only need to confess our sins to God, and He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

God Has Not Forgotten You, You are in His Hands

When you feel like you’re all alone, remember the verses in John 10 that we are in God’s hands.

Close your eyes and just picture yourself in God’s great big hand.

Know that the storms of life may rage, but you are in God’s hand and no one and nothing can snatch you out of His hand. Just close your eyes and picture yourself there. Picture the storms raging around, but you are in God’s hands and He’s not going to drop you and God hasn’t forgotten you.

Take a deep breath and remember that you are in God’s hands.

Psalm 46:10 in the NKJV says,
Be still, and know that I am God;

When those storms rage, be still and know that He is God, and know that you are in His hands. Take a deep breath. Live your life by his word and know that no one can snatch you out of your father’s hand.

Pray For Encouragement

God has not forgotten you, and you can pray for encouragement to know this truth.

Another thing you can do is ask. God is listening to you. He is listening to your prayers. He hears your prayers, so ask for his encouragement. Ask that he’d show you that he sees.

I was going through a hard time just a couple weeks ago, and I asked the Lord to show me that He was working. I was out in the lobby at my church talking to this person, and we were talking about something completely different than what I was going through.

All of a sudden, they said, “Are you okay?”

“No,” I answered.

I didn’t really explain anything because at that moment it was just so hard and overwhelming to explain.

Then, this person began to pray for me and in prayer they prayed the questions that I had been asking God in my heart. It’s like the Holy Spirit just spoke right through them, because this person had no idea, I’d been asking God this question, no idea that of what had been going on.

So, when you feel alone or overwhelmed, you can ask God to give you encouragement.

Keep Reminding Yourself of the Truth that God Has Not Forgotten You

I love this sentence that a teacher in Bible college used to say, he said, “God loves you so much that He can’t keep his eyes off of you.”

Your heavenly Father loves you.

He sees you.

He knows you.

And when you are feeling insecure, invisible, or unloved, you can ask Him to comfort you, to help you to see and know the truth that He loves you and that God has not forgotten you.

You are His child, and he will never leave you nor forsake you (See Hebrews 13:5)

Prayer

Father God, I pray that you would remind me of the truth that you have not forgotten me, that I am seen and dearly loved by You, my Heavenly Father. Lord, I pray for your encouragement, and that I would grow in trusting that you will never abandon me, never forget me and never leave me or forsake me. You are always with me. Help me to know and believe the love you have for me, and how precious your thoughts are towards me. In Jesus’ mighty name, amen.
