Have you been feeling insignificant, or that your life doesn’t count for much? I hope you will find encouragement today through this post.

My husband and I were sitting on the porch the other night, and I had been dealing with some discouragement.

I was just thinking out loud and I asked, “Why does God even need me? Why does he need my videos and podcast? Why does he need my Bible studies?”

“There’s Joyce Meyer, there’s Stormy O’Martian. There’s plenty of people with big names that have a very similar message as me. Why does God even need me?”

My husband said, “Because people need everyday people like you and me. Not everyone is going to listen to them. God needs everyday people.”

Dear sister, Jesus can shine through you today.

You may feel small or insignificant, but Jesus has placed you right where you are to shine for him in the place that you are.

“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.”

Matthew 5:14-15 NV

Some examples that have come to my mind are that small nudge to talk to someone or to say hi, to acknowledge that woman who may be feeling all alone, that is being Jesus to that person.

Examples of How God Can Use You

A friend of mine was sitting on his porch, and he was grappling with some things. A man was taking a walk by his house while he was sitting there; and this man kind of stopped and then started walking again, then stopped, turned around and came to him and said, “Is there something I can pray for you about?”

That man was led by the Holy Spirit to pray for my friend, and it made a huge difference. It was a picture of Jesus to my friend.

So, you could literally be taking a walk and God could call you to pray for someone.

And what about that person who just needs an encouraging word?

Could you be that person that speaks that word to them today?

Don’t let feeling insignificant let you stop moving forward with God today.

My Own Experience

I have had that happen at church lately. I’ve been going through some discouragement, and I will ask God to encourage me, and every time he has brought someone who was obedient to his leading and prayed for me, or said, “You’ve been on my heart, how can I pray for you?”

In Exodus 4:2, God asked Moses, “What is that in your hand?”

So, dear sister, what is in your hand today?

Is it a pair of shoes to go for a walk and pray around your neighborhood?

Is it a pen to write a note of encouragement, a blog, or even a page or two of a book today?

Is it an instrument that will help usher people into God’s presence?

Is it a listening ear for someone who needs someone to talk to?

Is it a workplace where people need to see the light of Jesus?

Is it a picture or a painting that could speak to someone’s heart?

Is it a garden where someone might find peace and beauty?

What is it that’s in your hand today?

God Needs You. You are not insignificant.

Ask God today to let you shine for Jesus wherever you are, because God needs you, you are not insignificant.

During Bible college, we would have Chapel every morning, and every morning after chapel, the dean of the Bible College would say, “There are people waiting on the other side of your obedience.”

So, nurture your relationship with Christ today, and ask him to send you where he wants, to prepare you for what is ahead, and to give you the Holy Spirit nudges for today.

Don’t forget that my new book, Tools for Spiritual Freedom is coming up September 14th, and you can actually pre-order that Bible study now.
