Today I will show you four ways I learned how to meditate on Gods’ Word.

Enjoy!

how to meditate on God's word

The situation had me on edge. My teeth clenched, anxiety gripped me, and the circumstances consumed my thoughts.

During that time, I heard a teaching about speaking God’s word aloud and how powerful it was. So, I tried it.

I found a scripture in the Bible and wrote it down where I could see it every day. Then, while I took a shower and got ready every morning, I repeated that verse aloud again and again. It took me about 40 minutes to shower and dress, and that entire time I muttered the verse out loud.

After a month went by, I realized I was no longer upset about the situation. Nothing had changed in the physical realm. Yet, I had peace, because instead of thinking about the problem, I had switched to declaring the truth of God’s Word over the situation.

I have heard many times that we should meditate on God’s word, but I never really understand what that meant.

In this article, I will share with you some ways I have learned how to meditate on God’s word and show you how you can put that into practice for yourself.

Read it repeatedly

One way I learned how to meditate on God’s Word is to read the verse repeatedly, right there while you’re reading the Bible. When you come across a verse that speaks to your heart, read it out loud ten times, but do it slowly. Don’t rush through, thinking you’ll get your ten times in quick, but think about the Word and what it means to you as you read it aloud.

Journal about it.

Another great way I learned how to meditate on God’s word is to journal about it. Write down the verse that speaks to your heart. Then start journaling your thoughts about this scripture. As you journal and process your thoughts about the scripture, the Lord can speak to your heart about that Word.

When you’re done, think about how you can apply this scripture and what you’ve written about in your own life.

Declare it.

Then there is declaration, as I wrote about in my example at the beginning of this article.  Write the scripture down in a place where you’ll see it every day. I heard a woman say she taped a verse in her kitchen cupboard and while she was cooking; she declared the Word out loud. I did it while getting ready in the morning. You could even do it while you’re gardening or cleaning. Whatever works for you, declare the word out loud every day.

Memorize

Another way I learned how to meditate on God’s word is to memorize scripture. While you are memorizing, you are both declaring, thinking about it and processing it in your mind. Memorization is one of my favorite ways to meditate on the Word of God .

Keep it in Context

As you put these different ways of meditating on the word of God into practice, we must always remember to think of the verse in the context that it was written.  That means reading the verses before and after that verse, so you don’t accidentally make it mean what you want it to mean.

Conclusion

These are the way in which I have learned how to meditate on God’s word for myself.  The word Meditate in Websters 1828 dictionary is defined as to dwell on, to contemplate and to study. Reading repeatedly, journaling, declaring and memorizing are ways that help you do just that.

Today, pick one way you would like to meditate on the Word of God and put it into practice for the next two weeks. I would love to hear in the comments below how it made a difference to you.

In His love,

Carolyn
