Jesus Heals the Broken. How do I know?
Broken is what I was.
Tears and painful memories were my constant companions, along with nightmares, torment, and fear.
Sometimes I didn’t know how I’d make it through the day, not to mention the night.
I went to people who I thought would help.
Many of them ran away or tired of listening.
Already wounded, I now felt rejected, hopeless, like a lost cause.
Was there any way out of the torment I lived with day in and day out?
I spent many days laying on the floor, weeping and crying, letting the sobs rack my entire body. And as I lay in that heap of brokenness and torment, I cried out to Jesus.
Jesus Heals by His very Presence
I found comfort in His Word.
I felt His presence in worship.
And when I prayed, I felt hope.
Jesus did not leave me like others had before.
I kept crying at His feet, and He kept listening.
I kept receiving His promises of hope, and He kept encouraging me.
I kept bringing Him my tears, and He kept reminding me that He is the healer of the broken (See Psalm 147:3).
Day after day I sought Him.
And as I did, it was as if He reached out His hand and picked me up off that floor. Brokenness left with His very breath of life and freedom.
Jesus Heals Your Brokenness if You Ask
Bring Jesus your tears, your fear, your pain. Bring Him the nightmares, the oppression, the struggles with your thoughts.
Be brutally honest with Him.
Hide nothing.
He is able to carry all of it.
Ask Him to help you become whole.
Know that He is Faithful.
When others have done nothing but fail you, when you’ve learned not to trust, it’s hard to trust Jesus at first.
Remind yourself of His faithfulness by reading scriptures about His faithfulness.
Anytime you find Him being faithful in your life, even in the smallest way, write it down and remind yourself of it regularly.
Run to Jesus, Not People
On my own, I ran to people to help me.
It only ended in disappointment. People did not have what I needed.
But when I sat at Jesus’ feet, and asked Him what the next steps were, He showed me. He led me to the very people who had the tools that could help me.
This time, I wasn’t going to them to fill me, but walking by the leading of God’s Spirit, and He worked through them.
Jesus Heals and Gives Courage
When Jesus shows you the next step to take, or asks you to face the pain, you might feel like running.
The desire for healing is there, but the fear that the pain will overwhelm you and the tears will never stop can be paralyzing.
So, when Jesus shows you the next step, ask for courage and strength.
I remember a time when I was at a church retreat, and the Lord prompted me to go up for prayer regarding a terrifying memory.
I couldn’t make my feet move.
So, I prayed, “Lord, please send someone to hold my hand.”
Not two minutes later, a woman I’d only recently met came up to me and said, “I feel you need to go up for prayer. Would you like me to hold your hand?”
Jesus understands when you desire healing, but you’re afraid to step out. Ask Him to send someone to hold your hand.
Jesus knows exactly what you need before you even ask Him (See Matthew 6:8)
He will lead and guide you (See Isaiah 30:21).
He will never leave you (See Hebrews 13:5).
You can trust Him (See Proverbs 3:5-6).
He hears your prayers (See Psalm 66:17-20).
And He will pick you up from that place of weeping and will bring you to a place of peace, life, joy, restoration, and hope.
Jesus heals the broken.
Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5 NKJV).
