“I like this house better, Mama. The old house just was not peaceful.” My daughter said as she folded her laundry.
Her words spoke more to my heart that day than she will ever know. And I praised the Lord that finally, He had brought us to a place of peace.
I won’t go into detail, but there were circumstances surrounding the purchase of our old house and the people who lived around us that caused us great unrest, and even a feeling of being harassed day in and day out.
During that time I was led to Isaiah 32:18.
My people will live in peaceful dwelling places, in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest (NIV).
We prayed that scripture many times over the years.
Finally, we felt the Lord’s leading to sell our house. We prayed about it a lot, because my son had one more year of high school and we didn’t have any idea where we were supposed to move.
But because my husband and I both felt so strongly that the Lord was leading us this way, and we felt He had confirmed His word, we put the house on the market.
It turns out, the man who bought it didn’t want to do anything with it right away, so in his offer, he said we could rent our home back from him for as long as we wanted.
So, we did.
We still had no idea where we were going to end up, but we had sold our home!
My son was in the last months of his senior year, when my husband asked if I’d like to walk through some open houses, just to see what we liked and to get an idea of what we wanted.
We walked through this house before it was even finished being built, and I fell in love. It had everything we had asked for, and it was in the right price range.
We went home and prayed.
And later, we put our deposit down on our home.
My son went through his graduation ceremony on a Saturday, and that Sunday, we moved into our new home.
We had prayed and stood on scripture for this house for more than ten years, that it would be a peaceful dwelling place, an undisturbed place of rest, and that we would love our neighbors, which we do.
Why did it take about ten years of praying? I don’t know, but I do know that God finally answered.
Are you in a place where you’ve been praying and praying, standing and standing and it feels like nothing is happening?
Are you in a place where discouragement is creeping in?
Remember, that God hears your prayers.
Ask Him to give you a scripture to pray, to keep standing on while you wait for Him to move.
Stay in His presence daily, receiving His comfort, encouragement and direction.
Sometimes, when you’ve been waiting a long time, it’s easy to think about giving up.
But don’t.
God has got a plan, even if you don’t see it yet.
Ask Him for that scripture you can pray back to Him while you wait.
In His love,
Carolyn
