You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is stayed on you.
This thought kept coming to my mind one day, years ago. I went to the park with my husband, and while looking at the peacefulness of the ocean, it came again. All day long, it would come, like a song stuck in my head that would not go away.
When I realized this was actually a scripture in the Bible (Isaiah 26:3), I recognized the Holy Spirit was whispering God’s truth to me.
When we decide to keep our minds fixed on the word of God, He does keep us in peace.
I remember when there was an upcoming event that I was a bundle of nerves about. I started reciting a promise in scripture over and over as I got ready in the morning. By the end of one week, the situation hadn’t changed, but the fear about it was gone. I was able to go into the situation knowing and trusting that God was with me, and He was.
Joshua 1:8 tells us to keep the word on our lips and meditate on it day and night. According to Webster’s 1828 dictionary, one of the definitions of meditate is “to dwell on anything in thought”. When we choose to dwell on the word of God instead of on our problems, we will have peace.
I am not saying we should forget our problems, pretend they aren’t there and not deal with them. What I am saying is that we can meditate on the word of God, have peace, and go into our situations, our problems, our events, knowing that God is with us, that His word is faithful and His promises are true.
What are you going through right now? What is one thing in your life that you could use God’s peace about? Find a scripture, and make a conscious decision to keep your mind on God and His word regarding your situation. Say it several times a day, even if it takes a month or more to get it into your heart. Don’t let go of the word, hold fast to it (Philippians 2:16).
Ask the Lord to give you His peace on the matter and help you keep your mind on him and his word.
What a great post! Thank you for reminding us that His Word is true and we can claim His promises despite our situation! Blessings
Thanks, God Bless you!
This is such a needed word of encouragement, Carolyn! I personally know that I have to purpose in my heart to meditate on His Word and believe on His truths. Praise God. Thank you Holy Spirit for bringing back to our memory scripture that is needed for such times.
Thanks Terra, God Bless you!
